This is a fairly new estate in Monforte d'Alba, and the consultants - agronomist Gian Piero Romana and oenologist Piero Ballario - are both high level, the latter also the consultant to Alberto di Grésy.
The 2001 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Roca Neira, a bright ruby, is ripe ans spicy on the nose, supple, well endowed, and fresh on the palate. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2008.
The 2001 Ornati adds Cabernet to Piedmontese grapes in skillful fashion, fusing plums, cassis, tar, and a light, sweet herbaceousness on the nose and adding a certain berry fruit roundness to the solid, sustained flavors. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012.
The 1999 Barolo is well balanced, its ample kirsch, rose petal, and anise aromas finding their counterpart in the sizeable, well extracted palate, deep, round and with quality tannins which support and extend the flow and continuity. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018. By Daniel Thomases.
